Baltimore is a city in the U.S state of Maryland. The city founded in 1729 has been named after the founding proprietor of the Maryland Colony, Lord Baltimore. John Quincy Adams, on his visit to the city in 1827 nicknamed it “Monument City.” It became an independent city in 1851.
