The initial fame of this city is related to the black history of America that is of slave trade. Like most of the parts of eastern and northern United States Annapolis was also under British domination till 1783. The name of this city was thus kept after the name of Princess Anne of Britain. Annapolis which is also capital of the district of Maryland has in recent years gained world fame due to the hurricane attack over it.
The closeness to the Atlantic is the reason behind its being the address of United States Naval Academy. Annapolis is also referred to as the sailboat capital of the world as every year in autumn the city organizes one of the biggest power boats and sail boats show. The city tries to remember its colonial past every year through the Maryland Renaissance Festival.The costumes, food, traditions and accents of 16th century England are celebrated in this festival. While in Annapolis the Maryland State House and the City Dock or commonly called the Ego Alley should be visited.
