Colón is a city and largest seaport in Panama, beside the Caribbean Sea, lying near the Atlantic entrance to the Panama Canal. It is the capital of Panama's Colón Province and is known as Panama's second city.


Colon is the largest port city of Panama, excelling even the port of Miami. Besides being the largest port city, Colon is also the second largest city among the Panama cities. It is located at the entrance to the Panama canal. The city is the capital of Colon Province and is the cumulation point of Colon Container Terminal, Colon Port terminal, and the Manzanillo International Terminal. The city is home to approximately 298,344 people of African- Antillean descent. Though the city possesses no island, Isla Grande a famous tourist attraction is an island.

The city owes its origin to the Americans and was formerly named Aspinwall. But in 1890 the city was renamed after Christopher Columbus. Colon is the Spanish form of Columbus. The city borders another port city of Cristobal. Besides being the commercial center of the cities in Panama, Colon city is also an important tourist destination. The city is a port city that has a tropical maritime climate with abundant rainfall like other Panama cities.
