Moron Cuba

Morón is a city and a municipality in Ciego de Ávila Province in central Cuba. It is one of ten municipalities in the province, and is the second in importance and the oldest.


The city of Moron lies in the province of Ciego de Avila. Ciego de Avila lies in the middle of Cuba and is considered to be the narrowest of all provinces.

This holiday destination in Cuba is exemplary in the preservation of Cuban tradition and history which reflects in its art and architecture.

The major plantation in this province is sugar, pineapple, bananas, and citrus fruits. The nearest and the best beaches in this province are at Jardines del Rey, Cayo Coco, and Cayo Guillermo. Moron is considered to be the second largest and the oldest municipality in the province and dates back to the 1750s.

Named after Ramon Moron who was a relative of Don Pedro Moron, one of the founders of the village of Santa Maria del Puerto de Principe, this city has a population of 70,000. The city displays 19th-century architectural style and is also called the ‘ City of Rooster’.The monument of the ‘ Moron Rooster’, built by the famous sculptor Rita Longa, is a famous tourist destination in Cuba.
