According to the survey made in July 2007, Yemen population is 22,230,531. Going by the demographic study of the world, Yemen ranks 51st in population in the world. Since 2003, the rate of population growth has been consistent at 4.7% growth rate per annum according to the reports of the United Nations. The present population density too is reasonable at an average of 35 people living per square kilometer. The male female ratio in Yemen is more or less equal, with the ratio a little heavy on side of the male population. The average male to female ratio of Yemen is 1.03:1.

The population of Yemen is mostly concentrated in the cities rather than in the villages. The Yemen population dwindles towards the southern part of the country, where the vegetation is desert type and arid. The major cities of Yemen include its capital Sanaa, Hodiedah, Aden and Tiaz. These are highly populated areas. The central highlands of Yemen and the foothill regions of Tihama are the places, which are occupied by the majority of Yemenis.
