The city of Salinas is the county seat and largest municipality of Monterey County. It is located at the southern portion of the greater Bay Area in Northern California. It is roughly eight miles inland from the coast of California in the narrow Salinas River Valley.

Airport in Salinas is used for general aviation. San Jose International Airport is the closest commercial airport.
The Coast Starlight train, running between Seattle and Los Angeles, makes a daily stop at the Salinas Amtrak station.
