Savannah is a city in the U.S state of Georgia. Founded in 1733 as a Crown colony, Savannah is the oldest city in the state. The city derived its name from a Muskoghean Indian word, which means “Shawnee”, the native name of the Shawnees. Savannah was the second-largest city in Georgia before 1970. It was the first colonial and state capital of Georgia. In 1864, the Northern troops captured the city. Later, the city grew as a tourist destination.
