Cayman Island Flag

The national flag of the Cayman Islands was officially adopted on May 14, 1958. Prior to this date, the Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory, used the official British flag for all administrative and official purposes. The territory was granted the coat-of-arms and this ensign was adopted for use in the flag.

The Cayman Islands Flag has a navy blue base color. The British Union Jack is depicted in the top left corner. On the right side of the flag, to the middle, is Cayman Island’s coat of arms.

The coat of arms consists of a shield, a crested helm, and a motto. The three green stars in the crest represent each of the Cayman Islands. The white wavy stripes represent the sea. Towards the top of the shield is a gold lion which represents Great Britain. There is a green turtle on a coil of rope above the crest and behind the turtle is a gold pineapple. Beneath the crest is the country’s motto, “He hath founded it upon the seas”.
