A brief history says that at the end of the 10th century Sfax had become an independent city. But towards 1148 the city was conquered by Roger of Sicily and at the end of 19th century Sfax was under the French domain. Even during the World WarII, the Axis powers utilized the city of Sfax as the base camp area. In 1956 Sfax completely became under the domain of Tunisia. The economy of Sfax is based on industries and agriculture.
