Oeste is a region of Portugal, located in the western part of the country. The region is divided into several villages and towns. Oeste is considered the most visited tourist destination in Portugal.

Location of Oeste

The Oeste Region or sub-region is located on the western coastal end of Portugal in the Centro region. The word oeste means west. Oeste is situated in the north of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal.

Places to Visit in Oeste

The region consists of several towns and villages full of natural beauty as well as historical monuments. Some of the popular towns are:

    • Obidos town is one of the most visited destinations in Oeste. The beautiful town is surrounded by high walls, a classic feature of the country.

Along with the Church of Santa Maria, the town boasts several exquisite farmlands, vineyards, and impressive houses with terracotta roofs and all.

  • Berlenga Island is located in the Oeste region and is one of the most beautiful islands in the country offering several ideal locations for diving. The 17th-century church is the most famous tourist destination in the region.
  • Peniche is famous for the port and the fishing industry. The numerous restaurants located on the island serve an outstanding variety of seafood.

Surfing, diving, golf, and tennis are the major activities that attract millions of tourists from all over the world.

Traditional Oeste cuisine, especially seafood is very popular among tourists. Oeste is also very popular for its exotic local wine.
