On February 26, 1993, terrorists exploded a suspected car bomb underneath the World Trade Center in New York. The attack claimed six lives with over 1,000 people injured. The attack, which was considered one of the worst at that time, left a crater which was many stories deep. On the fateful day, the plotters of the attack drove a van loaded with a homemade bomb weighing around 1,2000 pounds into the basement parking garage of the World Trade Center. The plotters parked the van in an illegal spot on a ramp and after lighting the fuses left in another car that was trailing them. The bomb exploded at 12.17 pm causing widespread devastation. However, in 2001 the 9/11 attacks surpassed the 1993 attacks as the worst in the history of the United States.
