Norfolk Island Education
Norfolk Island-Education offers free of cost educational services to those who fall under the age-group of six and fifteen. The Norfolk Island Central School and Greenwich University are the two prime educational centers of the place.
Students between the age of six and fifteen are subjected to compulsory education in Norfolk Island. The Norfolk Island Central School was established in the year 1906 and today offers education services to the local students. From kindergarten to standard 12 educational services are offered by the Norfolk Island Central School.
Greenwich university was a privately-run distance-learning center of Norfolk Island which was opened in 1999 and closed down in 2003 due to a change in the Australian Federal government Laws. The degrees conferred by this university of Norfolk Island were not approved by the Australian Department of Education.
The present government of Norfolk Island emphasizes on building a strong base for education in the place. From primary and secondary schools to colleges and universities, the government of Norfolk Island is planning to establish a wide array of education institutions within its geographical premises.

Greenwich University, Norfolk Island
Greenwich University, Norfolk Island was established in the year 1999. Due to an alert and change in the laws of Australian Federal Government the Greenwich University was closed down in the year 2003. Being a private distance-learning enterprise Greenwich University of Norfolk Island used to offer a range of special and general courses to its students. The time for which Greenwich University was operating it was considered as a significant part of Norfolk Island-Education.
During its operational days, Greenwich University used to conduct many degree courses which were based on the course curriculum of the Australian Education system. However, the degrees that were conferred to the students by the Greenwich University of Norfolk Island were not accredited by the Australian Department of Education.
As per an assessment of the Commonwealth of Australia the fact was revealed that the educational standard and courses of Greenwich University are not meeting the norms of the Australian Education system. As such in 2003 Greenwich University, Norfolk Island was discontinued.
Norfolk Island Central School
Norfolk Island Central School was built in the year 1906 and is considered as one of the most reputed educational institutions of the place. Kindergarten to standard 12 educational facilities are provided by the Norfolk Island Central School.
The primary section of Norfolk Island Central School comprises of 8 classroom teachers and around 191 students. All the staffs of Norfolk Island Central School are selected on the basis of merit test. There are separate sports classes for primary section of Norfolk Island Central School which take place on every Wednesday afternoon.

The original building of Norfolk Island Central School houses hospitality rooms, two primary blocks, visual arts building, three secondary classroom buildings, storage space, toilet blocks and woodwork and science rooms.
