Mauritius weather features a tropical maritime climate. It is under the influence of the south-east trade winds. A little seasonal variation is found in the temperature of Mauritius.

The island generally witnesses a sunny weather in the coastal region. Mauritius thus enjoys a pleasurable climatic condition throughout the year. There are mainly two seasons in Mauritius: summer and winter.

The region is heavily dominated by the sea breeze particularly on the eastern coastal region. While the area of inland central plateau around Curepipe remains cool and rainy throughout the year. Summers in Mauritius begins from November and ends in May. During this period, temperature remains hot, wet and humid. The months of January and February comprise the midsummer period in Mauritius whereby the temperature becomes approximately 25 degrees Celsius in the plateau area and 31 degrees Celsius in the coastal region. From January to March, the place witnesses cyclonic attack and rainfall. It is always better to carry suns screen lotion and hat during summer. Long sleeved shirts and trousers should be put on to avoid insect bites.

The months from May to November are winters in Mauritius. The weather during this period gets warm and dry. The months of June and July form the midwinter period in Mauritius. The mid-day temperature becomes 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit) in the coastal region. That on the plateau area becomes 19 degrees Celsius (66 degrees Fahrenheit). Warm clothes during evening hours are advisable.

The temperature of the sea water is higher in summer months and dip down somewhat in winter. During summer season, the sun rises at 5 am and sets at 7 pm. In winter, the sun rises at 6 am and sets at 6 pm. The pleasurable Mauritius weather makes it an ideal tourist destination.
