Kericho is the tea country of Kenya. After India and Sri Lanka, it is the world’s third largest producer of tea. Kericho can be said to be the heart of Kenya’s tea plantation. The rolling hills of Kericho are covered with bright green tea bushes. The weather is perfect for growing tea as it rains every afternoon.

Kericho is situated on the western side of the Great Rift Valley and is named after a Maasai chief Ole Kericho, who was killed in a war by the Gusii in the 18th century. Kericho has a war memorial and Holy Trinity church.

The hospitality of the local people encourages the tourists to visit this tea kingdom. Each family serves tea to their guest. It is a must for the local people. The tourist can also enjoy a cuppa in the charming Tea Hotel, which is 266km away from the capital of the country, Nairobi. It was built in the 1950s by Brooke Bond. One gets an old feel in this hotel. The hotel can also arrange for a tour of a tea plantation and trout fishing in a nearby river.
