The Marco Island, situated in the farthest northern region of the cluster of islands called the Ten Thousand Island, is a mangrove island; and so it thrives in plant, animal and avian life. Being surrounded by water, it is obviously thrives in marine life too. The ethereal beaches, however, are the unique selling point of the Marco Island. You have two options to help you reach the island – water and air – and transportation facilities are aplenty so you should have no problems as far as conveyance goes.

The Marco Island has an extremely rich cultural and traditional heritage. Originally a land inhabited by the Calusa Indians, subsequent eras saw the influx of the Spanish and many other ethnic races.

So what you have now is an amalgam of cultures and ethnicity – and the resulting impact is mesmerizing. Remnants of this rich past is visible all over the island. Some of the other interesting places that you can visit are Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, Briggs Memorial Nature Center, Collier-Seminole State Park, 10,000 Islands National Wildlife Refuge, Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve, Big Cypress National Preserve, Everglades National Park and Caribbean Gardens . The Marco Island has a lot to offer in terms of cuisine as well. You will find a whole lot of places serving up mouth-watering delicacies, some of which are: Su’s Garden, Arturo’s, Conrad’s, Island Café, La Casita, Bavarian Inn, Cafe de Marco, Blu Fusion, Snook Inn, Olde Marco Island Inn and Capt. Brien’s Seafood and Raw Bar.
