The Mackinac Island is a city presided over by peacefulness. The legends have it that the Mackinac Island is a sacred place patronized by the Gitchie Manitou spirit. This fact apart, the island is an enchanting lot. It shot to fame during the era of the fur trade conducted by the French and the British. A unique feature of this island is that except for emergency/service vehicles and snowmobiles, no other motor vehicles are permitted to ply the streets. The main mode of transportation on the island, as a result of this, is the cycle and the horse-drawn carriage. The sharp claps of horse-hooves on the cobbled streets are truly an experience of its kind and an USP of the place.

You can get access into the island via an assortment of boats, ferries and small planes. The island is also dotted with shops selling candy. The Lilac Festival is another island specialty to watch out for.
