Hurricane Ivan was a powerful hurricane that caused significant damage in the Caribbean and the southeastern United States in 2004. The hurricane was the ninth named storm, the sixth hurricane and the fourth major hurricane of the active 2004 Atlantic hurricane season.

Ivan was a powerful and devastating hurricane that formed in September 2004 near the coast of Africa. It rapidly intensified and traveled across the Atlantic Ocean. Ivan then moved northwest toward Jamaica, causing severe damage and loss of life. The hurricane then turned northward and passed between Cuba and the Cayman Islands before making landfall in Alabama.

Ivan was a powerful and destructive hurricane that reached Category 5 status on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, the highest category a hurricane can achieve. Ivan made landfall on Grenada as a Category 3 hurricane, then hit Jamaica as a Category 4 hurricane. It then made landfall in Alabama as a Category 3 hurricane. The hurricane’s Category 5 status and powerful winds made it one of the most destructive storms of the 2004 Atlantic hurricane season.

Damage by Hurricane Ivan

Ivan caused extensive damage and destruction throughout the Caribbean and the southeastern United States. The storm spawned numerous tornadoes, adding to the destruction. In total, the hurricane was responsible for over $23 billion in damages and more than 120 deaths in the United States, making it one of the costliest and deadliest storms in U.S. history.
