Typhoon Bolaven Lashes Japan’s Okinawa Island

A powerful typhoon moved past the Japanese island of Okinawa and is forecast to be moving towards Seoul in the Korean Peninsula. According to media, thousand of Japan residents were left without power and around four people were injured in the typhoon. Residents were advised to stay indoors and protect themselves against strong winds and heavy rain. The Typhoon Bolaven is the strongest storm to hit the area in over 50 years.
Japan’s meteorological agency predicted wind speeds near the storm’s centre at about 180 km/h (112 mph), with strong gusts of winds reaching 252 km/h. But the strongest gusts measured on the islands reached just 140 km/h. The winds were not as strong as expected and no major damage occurred so far. All domestic and international flights have been cancelled and all entry into the ocean is prohibited for now. Bolaven Typhoon is predicted to affect largely sparing populated areas before blowing out to sea again.
