Cairo Airport, known as the Cairo International Airport, is situated 14 miles away from the North-East direction of Cairo.


Cairo Airport is more popularly known as the Cairo International Airport. The location of Cairo Airport is around 14 miles away from the North-East direction of Cairo. This airport is accessed by thousands of travelers across the years, who come to visit the historical land of Egypt.

Going by the history of Cairo International Airport, it was built way back in the forties. In the year 1945, the airport was managed and controlled by the Civil Aviation Authority and then allocated to the International Civil Aviation. Originally, it was known as the ‘King Farouk 1’ airport. To accommodate increasing traffic the new airport was built in the year 1963. It has numerous arrival and departure terminals and two runaways. However, in the second and the third phase another two floors of the building were built.

Many domestic and international flights arrive and depart from Cairo International Airport. There are numerous airlines that serve this airport. This is the second most busiest and popular airport in Africa. The two terminals in this airport are served separately by national and international flights. They are almost two miles apart and connected by a free shuttle. The visitors can avail taxis outside the main exit of the airport. It takes around 45 minutes to reach the city center of Cairo from this airport.

An Airport Shuttle bus is the complimentary service offered up to downtown Cairo. The Pyramids Road in Giza falls on the way to Cairo from the airport. Public buses and air-conditioned coaches also run at frequent intervals from Terminal 1.
