Military of Djibouti comprises of Djibouti National Army. Djibouti National Army also consists of a Navy and Air Force wing. Since its Independence in 1977, Djibouti serves as the military base of France. Djibouti is the largest foreign military base of the French Army.

Post terrorist attacks on 11th September in 2001, military of Djibouti have offered their help to the US to fight against terrorism. The Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa is an endeavor to fight against terrorism. The combined joint task force consists of various branches of military and civilians from different countries who are willing to put an end to the terrorist activities. Several American troops have been located at the barracks of LE Monier in Djibouti to fight against Al Qaida terrorists in the neighboring country of Yemen. The US government has also sent a ship and 200 mariners to Djibouti. The Djibouti Military forces work in close cooperation with each other. The US Military force uses the naval and air craft facilities of Djibouti.

From 1991 to 2000, Djibouti’s Military was engaged in a civil war against the rebels of Afar. A Peace Treaty was signed in 2000 putting an end to the battle.

The military expenditure estimated in the year of 2006 is around 3.8% of the GDP of Djibouti. Djibouti receives great amount of military and economic aids from the US and France.
