Chilean TV is one of the most distinguished parts of entertainment in the country and lot of initiative has been taken for the betterment of this section of media.

Chile primarily has five national wide television channels operating from Santiago. The only state owned television station of Chile is Television Nacional (Channel 7). UCTV was originally run by the Catholic University of Santiago. The channel is now owned privately and is helped by the University in contributing to the cultural and educational programming. Most of the important programs are hosted by the professors and students of the University. The news programs are aired twice a day and the network television does not program any thing in English. The television stations in Chile always dub the English movies for the spectators.

Chilean Cable Television

Cable television was introduced in Chile in 1987 and since then there has been a tough competition with network television. The cable television in Chile airs English news like the Voice of America and CNN International. The premium channels in Chile like the Canal Cine and HBO telecast English movies and programs with Spanish subtitles. The Sony Channel in Chile is also a very popular channel showing a variety of American programs. Telefonica Chile, the renowned telecommunication company has started telecasting internet television through Imagenio.

Chile TV is on its way to development and it has successfully been able to captivate millions of viewers.
