Yaounde city is the capital of Cameroon. After Douala, Yaounde is the second largest city of Cameroon. Located in the centre of Cameroon, it is the agricultural center of the country. The main industries of the city include dairy products, cigarettes, clay, breweries, glass goods, and lumber. It also acts as the distribution center for various crops like sugarcane, copra, rubber, coffee.
The city is well connected with other parts of the country through rail and roadways. It houses the Yaounde Nsimalen International Airport and the Yaounde Airport. The former serves as the transportation hub of the civilians and the latter is used by the military personnel. Plying of buses is very frequent in the city. There exists a motorway between Douala and Yaounde.
Yaounde houses several government buildings and many beautiful houses belonging to the wealthy Cameroons. Apart from these places of interest, the city has a number of tourist attractions including:
- Cameroon National Museum
- Cameroon Art Museum (situated in the Benedictine monastery)
- Afhemi Museum
There is also a small zoo in the neighborhood of the city. The neighboring area of Yaounde serves as a home to many foreign embassies.
