Comprising an area of 1,760 square miles, Benton County is located in south-central Washington state. The county was founded on March 8, 1905. Prosser is the county seat and Kennewick is the largest city in the county. Rattlesnake Mountain, a treeless sub-alpine ridge, at 1,060 meters is the highest point in the county. The Columbia River defines the north, south, and east boundaries of Benton County. Interstate 82, US 12, US 395, and State Route 14 are major roads in the county.
Benton County has six public school districts and two community college campuses. The city of Prosser is renowned for its 40 wineries and a slew of seasonal festivals. Richland and Kennewick are two of the Tri-Cities in Washington, Pasco in Franklin County being the third one. The historical downtown of Kennewick features several art sculptures, galleries, and wine bars. Richland is a popular destination for outdoor creation. Columbia Park, Bateman Island, Badger Mountain Centennial Preserve, and Benton County Historical Museum are some prominent attractions in the county.
