Places to Visit in Kentucky

The beautiful places of Kentucky reflect the diverse geography of the state. Horse racing is one of the major recreation feature in the state.




Kentucky is home to a number of beautiful places and attractions. Some of the most well-known places in the state are :

Kentucky Lake Beach :

Considered to be the heart of West Kentucky tourism, Kentucky Lake is one of the largest man-made lakes in the world. The beach on the lake provides ample recreation. Fishing, boating, skiing, hiking, biking, hunting, camping, and wildlife viewing are major attractions. The Land Between the Lakes is one of the best scenic views lying along the eastern border of the beach.

National Corvette Museum :

Located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the National Corvette Museum was constructed in 1994 and opened to public in September the same year. The museum houses more than seventy-five Corvettes also displays a number of photographs, advertisements, television commercials, and Corvette memorabilia. Also sponsored by the museum is the Corvette Hall of Fame; it is designed for individuals who have been involved with the Corvette automobile and have made significant contributions in their respective fields.

Churchill Downs :

Located in Central Avenue in south Louisville, Kentucky, United States, Churchill Downs is a thoroughbred racetrack most famous for hosting the Kentucky Derby every year. One of the legendary racetracks in the world, it officially opened in 1875. It has hosted the renowned Breeders’ Cup six times, the most recent being in 2010. The Racetrack is scheduled to host the event (Breeders’ Cup) again between November 4-5, 2011.

Mammoth Cave National Park : Established on July 1, 1941, the Mammoth Cave National Park is the longest known cave system in the world with passage-ways of 390 miles. It is located north-east of Bowling Green, north-west of Park City, and ten miles west of Cave City. It became a World Heritage Site on October 27, 1981. The most notable features of the cave are Grand Avenue, Frozen Niagara, and Fat Man’s Misery.

Patton Museum of Cavalry and Armor : Named after the Second World War General George Patton, the Patton Museum of Cavalry and Armor is one of the most famous places in Kentucky. It is located on Fort Knox army base. The museum displays German and Japanese war artifacts and has an extensive collection of US and foreign tanks and weapons. The most famous exhibits in the museum are the mementos of Patton’s military career that include his wartime caravan truck and the sedan in which he was fatally injured in 1945.
