John Nance Garner the renowned figure of the United States politics was born on 22nd November, 1868 near Detroit Texas. He had been the representative from Texas and the 32nd Vice-President of the United States from 1933-1941. This great political figure was popularly known as Cactus Jack.

In 1898 John Nance Garner had been elected to the state legislature where he was seen serving until 1902. While in the legislature he got the chance to establish a new 15th Congressional District and at 34 had elected its representative.

During the year 1909 John Nance Garner became a party whip. While World War I he had been recognized as a leader and had become the liaison between the House of Representatives and President Woodrow Wilson. After the completion of war Garner continued to serve as minority floor leader in the 71st Congress. Again in 1931 when the Democrats arranged the House, Garner got the post of the speaker.

The political support given William Randolph Hearst helped Garner to contest the Presidential Election in 1932 spring. Though his election campaign was not as vigorous as the other potential candidates, yet he acquired an incredible ninety percent of the total California and Texas votes. His willingness to offer all his acquired votes to the Franklin D. Roosevelt bestowed upon him, the nomination of American Vice President, which he accepted quite reluctantly. 8th November 1932 was the day when Garner was simultaneously elected as the US Vice President and member of the US Congress for the second time. However, he soon left Congress on 4th March, 1933.

In 1937 Garner was started to be recognized as the 2nd most powerful man in Washington. He had been the leader of the group of Conservative Democrats.

Since John Nance Garner had about 30 years experience of the House, including being a speaker he acted quite efficiently during his Vice presidency. Though he was quite aged during that period but in spite of that he became an eminent Democratic candidate of the 1940 election.

This great political figure of the United States John Nance Garner passed away on 7th November, 1967 and was buried in Uvalde.
