Introduction : this island county which is also referred to as “The walled City” or “La Ciudad Amurallada” was first called “Borikén” by the Taínos Arawak Indians who were the original inhabitants of the island.
It was named “San Juan Bautista” after Saint John the Baptist after Europeans landed on the island. Christopher Columbus was the first of them and dropped anchor in 1493. Finally over time due to the prosperity of then island, it took the name of “Puerto Rico” meaning ‘rich port’.
