Massive Earthquake Hits Fiji

2017-01-03 21:52:31 UTC: According to U.S. Geological Survey, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake has hit 284 kilometres off the coast of Fiji at 10.52 am local time. Initially a tsunami warning was issued for some parts of the Pacific which are closer to the epicentre. People living in the low lying areas of Fiji were told to evacuate. However, Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre reportedly mentioned that the areas may experience waves of between 0.3m and 1m above normal tide levels.

6.6-magnitude earthquake in Fiji’s Ndoi Island

6:41 AM May 28(UTC) : A 6.6-magnitude earthquake was reported some 161 km south southeast of Ndoi Island in Fiji. However, no tsunami warnings have been issued. As per reports, the earthquake occurred at a depth of approximately 416.79 km below the surface of the earth.

6.4-magnitude earthquake near Fiji’s Ndoi Island

5:02 AM May 27 (UTC) : A 6.4-magnitude earthquake has been recorded near Ndoi Island in Fiji. The epicenter of the earthquake was located around 19 km south of Ndoi Island and at a depth of some 572.13 km. The authorities have not issued any tsunami alert. Further details about the earthquake are awaited.
