The second edition of the World Cup Cricket was held in England. Eight teams participated in the event. The matches consisted of 60 overs. The various venues in England hosted the 15 matches played in the tournament.
Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds, Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, County Cricket Ground at Edgbaston in Birmingham, Trent Bridge in Nottingham and Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester were the main venues of the matches.
It was the final match of Pakistani players Majid Khan and Asif Iqbal and the first match of Boycott and Brearley, Old and Taylor of England and the West Indies players Greenidge and Haynes. Canada did not participate in the tournament for the next 24 years. It reappeared in Cricket World Cup 2003.
CG Greenidge of West Indies hit 253 runs and set the record for the highest run-scorer. Hendrick of England took 10 wickets and became the Highest wicket-taker and Asif Iqbal, the wicket keeper of Pakistan took 4 catches and set the record for the player to take most number of catches.
The finals of the tournament held at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London was a witness to the victory of West Indies in their match against the host team England.
