In the list of the 32 council areas of Scotland, we have Renfrewshire, a historic county, situated in the West Central Lowlands. It is also referred to as “Greater Renfrewshire” and is separated into Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, and East Renfrewshire – three council areas.
Due to the purposes of the local government, East Renfrewshire was part of the county of Renfrewshire until the year 1975. Today, Renfrewshire may not be a local authority but it still continues to be the lieutenancy area of East Renfrewshire and the registration county. East Renfrewshire is situated in the southern part of Glasgow in Scotland. As per the 2001 survey, East Renfrewshire is dominated by a large majority of the Jewish population.
The year 1996 saw the formation of the East Renfrewshire local authority. It came as the successor to the Eastwood district and Barrhead, a part of the Renfrew district. The City of Glasgow, North Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, and East Ayrshire flanks East Renfrewshire. As the constituency of the British House of Commons, East Renfrewshire selects a Member of Parliament, once in five years.
While Cllr Jim Fletcher is the leader of the East Renfrewshire Council, Provost Alastair Carmichael is its Civic Leader.
