The National Anthem Of Latvia, Dievs Sveti Latviju was adopted as the national anthem of Latvia in the year 1873. This patriotic national Anthem was penned by a renowned Latvian journalist and teacher Karlis Baumanis in the 19th century. Karlis Baumanis, known locally as Baumanu Karlis lived from 11th of May 1835 to 10h of January, 1905. However, the Latvian National Anthem was written when Russia was still occupying Latvia. The Latvian National anthem lyrics are rather a spiritual invocation to God, a prayer that seeks His blessings for the safety and welfare of Latvian men and women. Situated off the coast of Baltic sea and the Gulf of Riga, Latvia is surrounded by many Belarus, Lithuania, and Estonia.
THE TRANSLATION OF THE NATIONAL ANTHEM OF LATVIA IN ENGLISH
Bless Latvia, O God
Bless Latvia, O God,
Our verdant native land sod,
Where Baltic heroes trod,
Keep her from harm!
Bless Latvia, O God,
Our verdant native land sod,
Where Baltic heroes trod,
Keep her from harm!
Our lovely daughters near.
Our singing sons appear,
May Fortune smiling here
Grace Latvia!
Our lovely daughters near.
Our singing sons appear,
May Fortune smiling here
Grace Latvia!
