Parliamentary Elections of Latvia

A number of important Parliamentary elections have taken place in Latvia. The last Parliamentary Election was held on the 7th of October, 2006. This particular parliamentary election of Latvia was the fifth general election that took place in Latvia. This Latvia election elected the ninth Parliament or Saeima.19 parties contested in this particular election out of which only five were able to occupy seats in the Parliament. This coalition is headed by Aigars Kalvitis of People Party. The Parliamentary elections of Latvia take place at a gap of four years. Other important Parliamentary elections of Latvia were held in the year 2002, 1998, and 1995.

Presidential Elections of Latvia

The last Presidential Election of 2007 of Latvia was held on the 31st of May. In this Presidential Election, Valdis Zatlers defeated his competitor Aivars Endzins and became the President of Latvia. The President of Latvia is elected by the Parliament for a term of four years.

Thus, it can be concluded that Latvia Elections play a very important role so far as the functioning of the Latvia Government is concerned.
