Latvia fauna is rich in varied species of animal life ranging from the flying squirrel of the north to the edible dormouse. Fauna of Latvia also includes the broad leaved cinna of the east and also the cross legged heath of the west. Latvia geography has a great role in shaping the fauna of Latvia.

Latvia is full of dense forests, which are a home to varied animal species. Though large tracts of forests are found in Kurzeme peninsula, which is situated along the Daugava river bank. This bank is largely ruled by the coniferous trees like spruce and pine and also deciduous trees like alder, birch and aspen.

The varied species of Latvia fauna found in Latvia are foxes, lynx, badgers, weasels, ermines, squirrels, various species of hares and so on . Ermines and weasels are rarely found in Latvia. Various species of birds also comprise the fauna of Latvia. The varied species of birds found are nightingale, lark, quail, owl, partridge, blackbird, oriole, tomtit, woodpecker, finch. In marshes and meadows storks and herons are also found. Deers and elks and beavers are also found in large numbers.
