Armenia is located within 28º 00' N

longitude respectively. It is situated in southwestern Asia, and lies on the eastern part of Turkey.
The total area is slightly smaller than that of Maryland. Yerevan, the capital, is located in 40º 11' N and 44º 30'E latitude and longitude respectively. Armenia is 9 hours ahead of Washington DC during Standard Time.
The total area of Armenia is 29,800 square kilometers. The terrain is very mountainous with little forest land. The soil quality is very good in the Aras River valley area and the area has many fast flowing rivers as well. The
climate of Armenia is of highland continental type. The summers are hot and winters are cold but not harsh. Armenia is threatened by severe earthquakes and droughts from time-to-time. The region is completely landlocked and has no coastline. Soil pollution due to toxic chemicals is the major environmental concern of the region.
