Just a few months are left to the US Presidential Elections (Election date: November 8) and the two top contenders – Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump – are making every possible effort to grab the presidency. But, apart from these two candidates, the election will also see participation of a few others. Let us take a look at the candidates running for President in the 2016 US Presidential Elections.

Hillary Clinton: Hillary Clinton belongs to the Democratic Party. She announced her candidacy for the US presidency on April 12, 2015. Hillary Clinton has a wide range of experience and has served in important positions in the US government. She has served as the 67th United States Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013 under the presidency of Barack Obama. She has served as the First Lady of Arkansas during the governorship of Bill Clinton from the period 1979 to 81 and from 1983 to 92. Upon Bill Clinton’s election as the President of the United States, she became the First Lady of the country and served in that position from 1993 to 2001. In 2000, she was elected as the Senator of New York becoming the first female to have been elected in that capacity and the only first lady in the history of the United States to ever have sought elective office.

Donald Trump: Donald Trump belongs to the Republican Party and announced his candidacy on June 16, 2015. Born on June 14, 1946, Donald Trump is an American businessman, television personality and an author. He is the Chairman of Trump Organization and has during his career built many hotels, golf courses, casinos, skyscrapers among others. From the years 2004 to 2015, Trump hosted reality television show ‘The Apprentice’ on NBC.

Jill Stein: Jill Stein belongs to the Green Party and is currently the party’s presumptive nominee for president. She announced her candidacy for the US presidency on June 22, 2015. Stein was also Green Party’s presumptive nominee for President in the elections held in 2012. She has been a candidate for the Governor of Massachusetts in the years 2002 and 2010. In the 2012 elections, Stein received 469,501 votes, which was around 0.36 percent of the total votes.

Gary Johnson: Gary Johnson belongs to the Libertarian Party and is the party’s nominee for president. On January 6, 2016, Johnson announced his candidacy for the US president. Johnson was the 29th Governor of New Mexico as a member of the Republican Party and served in that position from 1995 to 2003. Johnson participated in the 2012 US presidential elections and announced his candidacy for president on April 21, 2011 as a Republican. However, as he was excluded from many Republican Party debates and could not get traction while campaigning for the New Hampshire primary, he withdrew his candidacy for the Republican nomination on December 28, 2011. He announced that he would continue his campaign as a Libertarian Party candidate and on May 5, 2012 won the party’s nomination.
