The region of Sumperk is situated on the spectacular valley created by River Desna. The town is surrounded by the imposing mountainous ranges of the high rising Jeseniky. With a small population of 30,000 people,  the town is emerging as one of the important economic, social and historical centers of the region of Moravia. The town is also a repository of the age old tradition of the Moravian region.

The town of Sumperk is rich in history and has been under the influence of several rich and noble families who have acted as patrons improving and developing the town. The town was first founded in the early 13th century. The town came under the influence of the Zerotin family in the 16th century. The town was destroyed in fire in the year 1513.Some parts of the region were recovered and reconstructed under the patronage of the Zerotin family. The region fell under the patronage of the Lichtenstien family in the 17th century. The region prospered under the lordship of the family. Another destructive fir broke out in the year 1669 claiming several lives.

The town of Sumperk is one of the primary tourist attractions in the country of Czech Republic. With the natural springs and the chateaus styled in the renaissance form of architecture, the region is also a gateway to the mountainous ranges of the Jeseniky.
