Ostrava City is the largest city and administrative center of the North Moravian region in Czech Republic. Spread over an area of 214 square kilometers, it is home to a population of 310,078. The city of Ostrava lies 326 km east of Prague, the capital city of Czech, measuring 19.5 kilometers from north to south and 19 kilometers from east to west.

Situated at a varying altitude ranging from 200 to 335 meters above the sea level, the city of Ostrava forms a part of the Amber route stretching from Mediterranean coast to the Baltic coast. Human settlements in the city of Ostrava began from the 13th century, though it was not until the 18th century that the city began to advance and develop fast.

Ostrava boasts of a high proportion of open spaces though the city has a rich industrial past. The Polanka forests and the lush green Polanka meadows, covering an area of 122.3 hectares, lies within the city limits. This area forms part of the Odra River National Park.

The Ostrava city is always pulsating with life. The city plays host to numerous cultural events, sports events and festivals that attract international tourists.
