Chile Fashion is best described when the people are in a festive mood. Chilean clothes are closely associated with the garments like ponchos, coats, and pants. The Chileans are very particular about their clothing.
The traditional clothes of Chile are still adapted in the society as fashion statements even if it does not carry the label of any designer. A chamanto is a traditional wear specially worn in central Chile, the design is similar to a poncho and the fabric used is silk, woven with thread and wool. The boundary is decorated with ribbon frills. The main difference between a chamanto and any other ponchos is their reverse colors on sides, one light shade and the other dark. Conventionally, the dark face of the poncho is worn during the day and the lighter side at night.
Though the Chileans are very fashion conscious and wear formal attire most of the time, they are well aware of being confortable in every season and on any part of the country. The chamantos was accepted as a world fashion when they were put on by the ambassadors of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation in 2004 Summit.
These chamantos are made more modernized by embellishments like Chile’s national flower, blackberries, barley and wheat ears and pansies. Though at higher altitudes, only warm clothes are worn with unique design and bright colors.
Some more fashionable garments of Chile are cloak, cape, safari jackets, toga and robes which are primarily made by the fabric of cotton, linen, wool, denim, viscose, tartans, taslan and polyester. Casual dresses are hardly worn publicly. Chile Fashion is deep rooted to its tradition yet beholds the beauty of the modern designers.
