Ptolemy, also known as Claudius Ptolemaeus was among most prominent Greek astronomers, mathematicians and astrologers during the 2 nd century AD. He was born in Hermiou near Alexandria, a Roman colony in Egypt. He was also an expert geographer and cartographer.

This book provides topographical details which has proved to be of great help to the contemporary cartographers. His first version of maps was brought out was in the year 1477. It was a map of Bologna.f
