Guardalavaca Cuba



Guardalavaca is a city in Cuba, located in the province of Holguin. Guardalavaca is an ideal subtropical beach with a 1.5 km stretch of beach, lagoons, and marine vegetation along with adjoining hills and valleys.

The geographical coordinates of Guardalavaca are 21d 7m 12s (Latitude) and -75d -50m 2s(Longitude) The name “Guardalavaca” has indeed a very interesting origin. It is a well-known fact that the Cuban islands at one point in time had been a plundering favorite of sea pirates. The story goes that in order to warn fellow men of the pirates stealing their cows, the natives would shout “Guarda la vaca”. This place goes down in history not only as one of the last strongholds of Cuban aborigines or the discovery of Christopher Columbus but also as an important city in terms of Spanish colonialism in America.

Guardalavaca draws a large number of tourists because of its cultural history dating back to the Mayan civilization. Some of the thousands of Mesoamerican artifacts excavated so far are on display in three of Guardalavaca’s museums-Museum Chorro de Maíta, Museo provincial de Holguin, and Museo Indocubano Bani.
