Somalia Air Travel
Hergeisa in north Somalia, and Mogadishu in southern Somalia are the two main airports in Somalia. Somalia has 6 airports with paved runways. Out of a total of sixty airports 54 have unpaved runways. In addition to Mogadishu and Hergeisa, Berbera, Bender Cassim, Garrowe, Galcaio, Beledweyne, and Baidoa, and Chisimayu are the other important locations having air connections.
There are no direct flights from Europe to Somalia. All European flights go up to Djibouti from where there are connecting flights to Somalia. Djibouti is well connected by air with Hergeisa, Mogadishu and other Somalian air destinations. There are flights from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to Somalia.
Somalia Road Travel
Somalia has a total highway of 22,100 km, out of which 2,608 km are paved and remaining 19,492 km unpaved. It takes two days to travel by road from Djibouti to Hergeisa in Somalia. The journey is very tough and tiring. Hergeisa is connected by bus to Jijiga in Ethiopia.
Local transportation in Somalia consists of hired taxis, buses, minibuses, and trucks. In rural areas where road conditions are very poor, people use donkeys, camels and cattle as means of transportation.
Road travel should be avoided in the southern region of Somalia as it is infested with bandits.
Somalia Water Travel
Mogadishu, Chisimayu, Merca, Boosaaso and Berbera are the ports in Somalia. Somalia travel in water is not developed because of the existence of a coral reef near the Somalia coast.
