The history of Poland music starts from as early as 13th century. Few manuscripts bearing polyphonic compositions related to the Parisian Notre Dame School have been discovered in Stary Sacz. The historical records claim Mikolaj z Radomia as the earliest known famous composer who lived in the 15th century in Poland.
The 16th century saw the innovation of the Poland music in the courtly atmosphere. Diomedes Cato is held as one of the famous lutenists at the court of Sigismund III Vasa. Diomedes was an Italian living at Krakow and helped in blending the musical patterns from Southern Europe with the traditional folk music of Poland. Few of the other composers of Poland who had earned fame during that period of time included Waclaw z Szamotul, Mikolaj Gomolka and Mikolaj Zielenski.
The Polish classical music reached the summit during the 17th and 18th centuries with the production of composers like Fryderyk Chopin, Karol Szymanowski. In between the wars, the Association of Young Polish Musicians was formed by the following group of composers: Grazyna Bacewicz, Tadeusz Szeligowski, Michal Spisak and Zygmunt Mycielski. The modern composers who have helped the Poland music carry its richness include: Krzysztof Meyer, Krzesimir Debski, Pawel Szymanski, Eugeniusz Knapik, Hanna Kulenty, Pawel Mykietyn.
