Nigeria Population

Nigeria Population is a very important agenda that is a single point that involves the issues of poverty, education, employment, health, food and all other aspects of national growth. Nigeria, in Africa accounts for the highest population rate in the continent. However, the economy is not among the best, rather it comes among the twenty poorest countries of the world. The Nigerian population according to World Bank research has a population of 126.9m and 116.9m according to the United Nation Population Funds estimate in 2000. The difference in head count is a human error, which arises naturally when the population distribution is so uneven. The alarming news is that the population growth rate has been estimated at an average of 2.5%, which would in some years cause a greater challenge to attempts of eradication poverty.

With the growth of Population in Nigeria, health hazards are a major issue. Though the percentage of Nigerians affected by AIDS/HIV is comparatively less, the affected population accounts for a tenth of those suffering from AIDS in Africa and 8% of the total world population.

Food available to the general mass is a major issue that the government is trying hard to solve but with the staple food being certain coarse grains, rice, roots and tubers, a large part of the Nigeria population suffers from malnutrition and indigestion.
