Jos was established by the British in the early decades of 1900. Jos, the capital of Plateau State in Nigeria, is situated at 9°55' latitude and 8°54' longitude. Jos in Nigeria is about 1250 meters above the sea level on the bank of Delimi River. The average temperature in Jos Nigeria round the year ranges between 21°C to 25°C. Jos with its cool temperature and great natural scenic beauty attracts great number of tourists.
Among the Nigeria cities, Jos holds the ancient black market for gasoline. The city of Jos is called the city of buried gems. Jos was initially a small mining village with enduring people and with no modern technology. There was no phone line and electricity was limited. However, the developments in the recent years have enhanced the civic facilities within the area. The treasures of the city also include unexplored minerals and mines. Extravagant stones like topaz, ruby, sapphire, amethyst tourmaline, garnet, quartz and aquamarine are found in plenty in Jos.
Other industries in Jos include steel rolling, food and beer production, burlap spinning and weaving, furniture manufacture, chemical manufacture and printing. In 1975 the University of Jos was established, which is a great place for higher education. Prior to the establishment of Jos, there existed the village of Geash. Jos is also a great resort town and welcomes tourists.
