Macedonia land and people refers to the populace and geographical land of the respective country. The Macedonia land and people boast of a great and rich past which dates back to the 3000 BC and has names like Alexander the Great.
Macedonia after ruling the world for many years became a territory of Greece and in the year 1991, became the Republic of Macedonia. The Greek forces applied their forces and caused major havoc in the region. This torture aggravated after the Greek Civil War of 1946-49 in which the communists lost. Macedonians were even restricted to use their native language and were forced to speak Greek. This reign of terror ended after Macedonia gained independence.
The total area of Macedonia is slightly larger than that of Vermont. The terrain of the land is covered with deep valleys and basin like structures. There are three large lakes and the country is divided by the Vardar River. The bordering countries of Macedonia are Albania, Greece, Serbia and Bulgaria. The climate of Macedonia is characterized by warm, dry summers and autumns. The winters are very cold and heavy rainfall occurs during the winter season.
The current population of Macedonia is 2,055,915 as in July 2007. The ethnic groups of Macedonia comprise of Macedonians being the majority groups, followed by the Turkish, Serbians, Roma and other minor groups. The most dominant religion of the country is orthodox Christianity followed by Muslims and other minor Christian groups.
Though there are minor political issues which still threaten Macedonia, the Macedonian republic is showing a steady growth.
