The government of Lithuania comprises of three branches namely executive, judicial and legislative. The executive branch consists of the president and the prime minister of the country. The Lithuania president is the chief of the state and the prime minister is the head of the government. Presently, the president of Lithuania is Valdas Adamkus.
The president of Lithuania is elected by people's vote and is supposed to serve the nation for a time span of five years. The prime minister of the country is elected by the president in consultation with members of parliament. The Lithuania president also has the power to elect the council of ministers, jointly with prime minister of the country. The last election was held on 13 June, 2007. The president can also serve the nation for another five years if he elected in the next election. The current president of the nation Valdas, Adamkus received 52.2 percent in the last election.
The president of Lithuania, Valdus Adamkus had taken his oath as the president on February 26th 1998. This Luthuania president has served the nation for quite long period of time and has earned several awards for his excellent service. He has already received an award from the US president for his outstanding service to the nation.
