Cyprus land and people makes up the essential identity of the island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean Sea. The country is cut by two mountain ranges that run from east to west of the island. The terrain of the island and the society are intricately related as the inhabitation of the people depends largely on the land. Cyprus land and people thus form an integral aspect of the country's existence.
Mt. Olympus, which is approximately 6,406 feet high, is the highest point in Cyprus. The land of Cyprus, that lie between the two mountain ranges, is plain land and is an agricultural area. More than three fourth of the Cyprus population are Greeks. These people of Cyprus inhabit mostly the southern region of the island and are under the Greek Orthodox church.
The northern part of Cyprus is occupied by the minorities which are the Turkish Muslims. Cyprus people mostly speak Greek. Besides Greek and Turkish, English is also spoken by a large number of people in Cyprus. The people and land of Cyprus are therefore closely related as the settlements depend on the type of land.
