About New York County Map
New York, situated in the northeastern US, is nothing less than world-famous. The state is most famous for the existence of its lively New York City (NYC), which is the leading financial and cultural hub of not only the state but the whole country. New York State is the third most populated state in the nation, with a population of 19,651,127, and New York City houses around 40 percent of this population. The State of New York has also been named the Empire State for its abundance of money, resources, and diversity. New York City is most noted for being the most significant gateway for migration to the US. New York City seems to attract significantly more foreign tourists as compared to other US cities.
The New York State is bounded by Pennsylvania and New Jersey to the south, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut to the east. It has some maritime borders with Rhode Island and shares international boundaries with the Canadian provinces, i.e., Quebec to the north and Ontario to the north and west.
New York Counties
New York State has 62 counties. Every county is further segregated into towns and cities. Some notable counties are Bronx County, Erie County, Nassau County, New York County, Westchester County, and Suffolk County.
Bronx County
The Bronx became a part of New York County only in the late 19th century after annexing from the county of Westchester. The Bronx is also the northernmost borough of the five boroughs which constitute New York City. Though the county is the third most populous in the US, about one-fourth of the region is open space.
The Bronx Museum, built in 1971, has various educational programs and revolving exhibits mainly focused on children ages five to eleven and their families. The Museum offers special performances, film screenings, guide tours, and many more by guest artists. It has a collection of over 800 artifacts and photographs.
The New York Botanical Garden, spread over 250 acres, provides its visitors with live exhibits in the 50 gardens and special exhibits throughout the year. The Garden also features special holiday exhibits like concert series, model train displays, unique shopping experiences, and dining in the gardens. The other facilities available in the garden are cooking classes, a farmer’s market, and an antique show.
The Bronx Zoo is another facility that attracts visitors from all across the world. The Zoo has a 4-D theater, tropic animal installation, sea lion pool, and exhibits of lemurs, tigers, and reptiles. The Zoo also possesses a separate zoo specially designed for kids. Its attractions are a monorail, a monkey and mouse house, and a bug carousel.
Besides these, Yankee Stadium, Wave Hill, Pelham Bay Park, Hunters Island, Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, Fort Schuyler, Christ Church, and Derfner Judaica Museum, etc., are the prominent places to visit in the county.
Erie County
Erie County, with the county seat as Buffalo, has been named after Lake Erie. The county shares border with Ontario, the Canadian province. First Niagara Center, Ralph Wilson Stadium, Buffalo Museum and Zoo, Coco-Cola Field, Lafayette Sqaure, Martin’s Fantasy Island, Temple Beth Zion, McKinley Monument, Squaw Island, Electric Tower, Glen Falls, and Trinity Episcopal Church, etc. are eye-catching places to visit in the county.
Nassau County
The Nassau County, with the county seat as Mineola, is spread over an area of 287 sq. miles. Aviation Museum, Nassau County Museum, Belmont Park, Sagamore Hill, Adventureland, Lido Beach, Tobay Beach, Inwood Country Club, Gilgo State Park, Bar Beach, Stepping Stones Light, and Massapequa, etc. are the main attractions of the county.
New York County (Manhattan)
Manhattan, most densely populated of boroughs of the NYC, the borough, is coterminous with the New York County. The county is widely known for its vineyard tours, historic villages, famous mansions and battlefields sites. The huge Central Park, which was opened for public in 1858 in Manhattan became the first public park of the nation. It is one of the most visited tourist attraction in the US. The Chrysler Building is the pinnacle of architecture and Manhattan’s eye-popping skyscraper. This stainless steel spire is second only to the Empire State Building in size. The Empire State Building is the tallest building in the state with 103 stories to boast of. The observatories at the 86th floor and 102nd floor are a must visit in the building.
The Lincoln Center is a performing arts complex which hosts wide array of events in music, theater, film, and dance. The center owns more than 30 outdoor and indoor performance facilities and hosts events on a regular basis. The Metropolitan Museum is one of the very few attractions of the area where one can spend days and still see just the fraction of holdings. This biggest museum of the US holds most considerable art collections.
Westchester County
Established in the year 1683, Westchester County is named after the Chester city of England and has the county seat as White Plains. Tarrytown Music Hall, Lyndhurst, Katonah Museum, Hudson River Museum, Croton Point Park, Untermyer Park, Thomas Paine Cottage, and De Wint House are the notable places in the county.
