The Nevada Territorial Legislature established nine counties on November 25, 1861, including Douglas, Churchill, Esmeralda, Lyon, Humboldt, Ormsby, Washoe, Storey and Lake. On October 31, 1864, Nevada was admitted to the Union with 11 counties adding two more counties, Nye and Lander. Lake County was consolidated with Washoe County in 1889. Four more counties were established, including Lincoln (1866), Elko and White Pine (1869), and Eureka (1873). In 1900 the last three counties were formed, including Clark County (1909), Mineral (1911) and Pershing (1919). Ormsby County, formed in 1861, consolidated with Carson City to form a single municipal government known as Carson City in 1969.
