1. Mississippi Governor’s Mansion: A historic US residence in Jackson, Mississippi, Mississippi Governor’s Mansion is located at 300 East Capitol Street. The second-oldest executive residence in the country that has been continuously occupied as a gubernatorial residence, the place is a historic landmark. In 1975, it was designated a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of Interior.

 

2. Roosevelt State Park: One of the most famous state parks in the state, Roosevelt State Park is located off I-20 near Morton, between Jackson and Meridian. The major attractions around the park area include the Bienville National Forest, Ross Barnett Reservoir, Tallahala Wildlife Management Area, and the Bienville Wildlife Management Area. The park offers recreation opportunities such as boating, hiking, skiing, and camping.

 

3. Wister Gardens: Located north of Belzoni, Mississippi, the Wister Garden is a magnificent garden with a variety of flowers and fruits. Pears, peaches, plums, fresh prunes, apples, and apricots bloom in spring and make a wonderful sight. The garden is well-known for rhododendrons. White Mute Holland swans, Black Australian swans, and a variety of ducks are found in the garden lake.

4. Gulf Islands National Seashore: Founded on January 8, 1971, the Gulf Islands National Seashore was created to protect the forest and all the government-owned islands nearby. There are twenty endangered species that live in the park. The Island has many natural beaches, historic sites, wildlife sanctuaries, and islands. It is a great place for camping, hiking, and boating.

 

5. Jackson Zoo: Established in 1919, the Jackson Zoo is the second-largest zoo in the state. It is located in Jackson, Mississippi. The zoo has over 120 species and nearly 800 individual animals from all over the world. It is one of the most-visited places in the state and draws over 200,000 visitors annually from Mississippi and surrounding states. Black Bears, Mountain Lions, and rattlesnakes are the most prominent animals in the zoo.
