Indiana University is the largest institution in Indiana. In 1820, its flagship campus was endorsed as Indiana Seminary.
Majority of the students in Indiana are enrolled in public institutions. Some of the prominent universities in the state are: Indiana University, Indiana State University, Purdue University, Vincennes University, Ball State University, and University of Southern Indiana. There are many institutions in the state which are affiliated to religious groups. Such universities are: University of Notre Dame, Butler University, University of Evansville, and University of Saint Francis.
University of Saint Francis
The University of Saint Francis is a private university located in Fort Wayne. It is a liberal arts university affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. The current enrollment of students is 1,800. The university was founded in 1890 by the Sisters of Saint Francis of Perpetual Adoration. Previously it was located in Lafayette after which it was relocated to Fort Wayne in 1944.
Indiana State University
Indiana State University is located in Terre Haute. It has been named the “Best in the Midwest” by Princeton Review. Established by the Indiana General Assembly on December 20, 1865, it is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The endowment of the university is more than $ 75 million. The main campus of the university covers an area of 200 acres and it enrolls approximately 11,000 students.
Indiana University
The main campus of Indiana University is located in Bloomington, Indiana. It was established on January 20, 1820, and is the largest university in the state. It enrolls more than 100,000 students across its various satellite campuses. It is public university and comprises two core campuses along with seven smaller campuses. The endowment of the university is over $1.2 billion, ranking 11th in the nation among public universities. The total area of all the campuses is equal to 3,639 acres.
Butler University
Butler University is located in Indianapolis. This private university was founded in 1865 and is named after Ovid Butler, the founder of the university. It was initially located on the near-north side of Indianapolis and was later shifted to Irvington. It offers 60 degrees programs and comprises six colleges. It covers an area of 290 acres. During the Fall session, the university enrolled approximately 4,500 students.
